Since I began walking around with my camera, I’ve been noticing much more of what’s around me. Stopping and smelling (or photographing) the roses I guess.
I notice clouds
They seem to be much more varied and often more dramatic than I ever remember. Surely it can’t be because of global warming. I’m just paying more attention.
I notice the light
It changes so much during the day. Soft pinks at dawn to a golden glow in the early morning. Then the bright daytime light slowly fades again to gold as sunset draws near. And the way everything becomes so vibrant when the sun breaks through storm clouds.
I notice my kids’ expressions
Often they are fleeting and I would not see them without the time stopping ability of a photograph.
I notice wildlife
I have been eagerly watching the Cape Barren Geese nesting near our home, patiently waiting for their babies’ first outing so I can get a photo of the “family ducks” as the kids call them.
I notice the landscape
Who knew there were so many wonderful scenes – large and small – even around my small town? My photos sometimes don’t do them justice, but that’s more incentive to keep getting out there.
I notice that nothing ever stays the same
I could photograph the same scene every day and each time it would be different. Sometimes subtle, sometimes more obvious.
I notice I’m not the only one
As I type this there is a woman walking past my study window trying to get a shot of the wetlands. She’s looking, checking what the frame looks like in the camera and tweaking her position. Appreciating that the world is an amazing place.
