Little Mermaid loves a song. In fact, over the last few weeks she’s begun to sing almost as much as much as she talks. That’s a lot.
One of my little helpers for some quiet time is her purple iPod Shuffle. When she’s plugged in I get a good 30 minutes without having to answer really difficult questions or have conversations with teddies, barbies, and other friendly folk that inhabit her imagination. As much as I love these conversations, there are times when I just can’t face one more phone call from Barbie.
Along with the usual Wiggles, Fairies and Justine Clarke I’ve snuck a couple of “classics” onto her iPod: Sweet Home Alabama, a bit of Shirley Bassey, My Sharona … Advance Australia Fair.
I love listening to her sing these songs especially, mostly because her lyrics just crack me up. Here is the official 2009 Little Mermaid version of Advance Australia Fair:
Australians all let us rejoice
For we are young and free (so far so good)
With golden soils and worst for twelve
Our home is good by sea
Our land abounds in ancient good
With beauty rich island
In history’s page let every stage
Advance Australia Fair
Aaaaadvaaaance Austraaaaliaaaaa Faiiiiiirrrrrrrr
What are your favourite ways to catch a few minutes peace?
