Make ironing fun

in Homekeeping

Make ironing fun. It’s one of my life ambitions. There must be something that can cheer up this mundane, repetitive, boring, tedious, necessary activity. I don’t watch TV when I’m ironing because the infomercials on morning TV (when I’m typically trying to get it done) drive me batty. Could they be any more fake and insincere if they tried? The end result is a large, and ever growing, pile of ironing in the corner of my lounge and cranky family in the mornings because they can’t find their clothes.

I don’t know about making ironing fun, but I’ve at least found a way to make it a bit more interesting and productive. I hook on my iPod and listen to podcasts or audiobooks. Now I get up to an hour (my ironing limit) every couple of days of brainfood, while I’m doing something mindless with my hands.

Here are some of the things I’ve been listening to over the last couple of weeks (podcast links are to iTunes, audiobook links are to Audible):

Podcasts

Audiobooks

  • Screamfree Parenting, Hal E Runkel – I’m hoping to review this book here towards the end of the month
  • Eat That Frog, Brian Tracey – techniques on overcoming procrastination and how to prioritise effectively
  • The Total Money Makeover, Dave Ramsey – Dave’s guidebook on how to live debt free

I am now sometimes looking forward to doing the ironing (just a little bit), so I can listen to a favourite podcast or get a bit further along in a book. The pile of wrinkly clothes in the lounge has gone too.

I listen to podcasts and audiobooks while I’m doing my housework too! And I listen to the majority that you listed. It makes it so much more enjoyable doesn’t it :)

I also listen to the Manic Mommies podcast and Flylady’s podcast. I got Suze Ormans audiobook and found that to be quite good. I have Dave Ramsey’s book so didn’t get it on audiobook, but I imagine that it would be better than the print version.

I’ve been doing mine while participating in a live online internet marketing course. Makes me feel less “guilty” for taking time out to do the course and gets the ironing up to date at the same time.

Great suggestions journeyer!!! :)

Oh, I have Suze Orman on audiobook as well – I forgot about her! I haven’t heard the Manic Mommies. I’ll have to give them a try too. Thanks Rachel.

Lightening – great idea to do online learning. Do you use a camera so they can see you multitasking :-) ? Best wishes for the course.
