Today I spent some time going through my in tray and taking some next actions. I was pleasantly surprised at how much I achieved. Some of the things I completed were:
- Wiping down the kickboards in the kitchen
- ALL the ironing
- Mopped the floors
- Some research and back end work for Journeyer’s Chronicles
- Reconciled our bank accounts
- Bought The Thinker some jeans that he’s been waiting patiently for
It’s such a great feeling to get some of these things finally done. Of course, some of them are things that I do regularly, but tend not to have much enthusiasm about
I also set dates for a lot of things. I can see I’m really making inroads. There’s still a bit of stuff in my in tray, but I can see I’m getting through it which is a great incentive to keep going.
The importance of having an easy and handy way to collect items for my in tray was emphasised during the day as things popped into my head while I was working away. My first instinct was to think “I’ll remember to do that later”, but of course I wouldn’t. It would become one of those things that I keep meaning to do, but only think of when I can’t do it. Instead I made myself write a note for my in tray so that later when I’m ready the item will be there for me to action.
Tomorrow I’m going to finish off emptying my in tray. Then I’ll be ready for the next step of getting things done at home.
